About
For the most part, people are resilient, having the ability to heal and grow, even after experiencing difficult times. However, sometimes we get stuck, and we need some help to get unstuck. What is needed is a guide, someone you can trust that will support you and not judge you. That’s where an experienced therapist comes in. You don’t have to stay stuck. Growth can be fun, and we can grow beyond our setbacks, beyond the limitations we have often placed on ourselves or accepted from others. I believe that with God’s help, we all have the ability to grow from our circumstances.
My Goal as a Christian Counselor
My goal is to help clients get unstuck, and to help them achieve the life that God would have for them. I’ve been very blessed to be able to help couples who are stuck in their relationships rekindle their love for each other. I have also had the joy of working with individuals to get unstuck and make successful life transitions in relationships, careers, and education.
What I Offer in Christian Counseling
I offer a collaborative, conversational approach to therapy. The clients I see come for many reasons. Many are stuck in unforgiveness, either of themselves or others. Many are depressed, anxious, or struggling with addiction. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients to reveal their cognitive distortion and self-defeating behaviors. Most often, clients leave my office with either a new cognitive tool or focused homework, as I believe that the client’s work takes place both in the office and in their life between sessions.
My Approach to Christian Counseling
Christians seeking treatment from a secular therapist will likely be offered a worldview that will be inconsistent with their spiritual beliefs and will be focused on having faith in yourself rather than having faith in God. While in the military, I worked with both believers and those who had no spiritual beliefs at all. Those who had a spiritual connection seemed overall to have more resilience and healed faster than others. Depending on each client’s preference and comfort level, I will incorporate prayer and Scripture into our sessions as part of the treatment process.
